以前,部落就習慣以貨幣交易,當時有廠商在部落徵作業員之風潮,部落青年為改善家庭生計,陸續開始離鄉求職。有的依親而作;或者自行求職,有的為求工作獨自與人相處。有的與同部落、階層在同公司一起工作,實無挑選工作之可能,在工作生活上相扶持,面對欺負,為了工作只能忍氣吞聲,迄今仍保有此善良的美德。
在都會工作,勤字擺當先,日出而作,日落而息。希望勤奮工作能改善家計,而潔身自愛,以完成交付的工作為首要,不假手他人,只求日有所得。領薪後不會有消費的衝動,節儉並儲蓄,每月由郵局寄生活費給部落老人家。長年有穩定收入,為保障下一代的都會生活,有了購屋置產的需求。
早期因貧窮才有離鄉背井的日子,現則已有許多人購屋置產,在都會過著穩定的生活。倘若返鄉,族人就以異樣的眼光看待,認定這樣的族人是最沒有用的。在部落,僅能自給自足。回鄉青年沒有工作場域,只能依賴打獵、採集、射魚轉賣換取生活費來度日。
